In the main, the scientific work of  E.A. Sevost’anov is devoted to the following questions: 1) removable singularities and boundary behavior of space mappings; 2) the existing of the solutions of differential equations of the Beltrami type in the plane; 3) the description of the branch sets for various classes of space mappings; 4) the convergence, normality and compactness problems for various classes of space mappings.

In particular, we mean above the so-called Q–homeomorphisms introduced in 1993 by Vladimir Gutlyanski together with Olli Martio, and the so-called mappings with finite length distortion introduced by Vladimir Ryazanov together with Olli Martio, Uri Srebro and Eduard Yakubov in their work in 2002.

As far as known, some particular cases of the Q–mappings appear in the work of the Yu.F. Strugov firstly. In the connection with it, we emphasize the significance of the  investigations helding by V.M. Miklyukov, studying the moduli and capacities on the surfaces, S.K. Vodop’yanov, P.M. Tamrazov, A. Cazacu C. studying the moduli with weights and V.A. Zorich studying the global homeomorphism problem. The above mathematicians, as we mean, can be consider the founders of the theory of mappings which are more general then quasiconformal.

The classes which are studied by E.A. Sevost’yanov are closely connected with the mappings of finite distortion which are intensively investigated in the last decade.

E.A. Sevost’yanov defended a thesis “On the convergence theory of space mappings with finite length distortion” in the February 2006. Supervisor of the above thesis was Vladimir Ryazanov who is the known specialist in the function theory. There were the positive reviews on the above thesis from the well–known specialists in the field Vladimir Milyukov (Volgograd, Russia) and Vladimir Dubinin (Vladivostok, Russia).
